Urban Action Group
The Tees Valley has a high concentration of industrial and urbansied areas. Past and present industrial activity has shaped many sites of biodiversity interest in the Tees Valley such as limestone slag grasslands. The urban areas have a diverse green infrastructure of parks, gardens, playing fields and transport corridors These urban sites are extremely valuable, not only in the wildlife they support, but also in the opportunities they provide to the people living on Teesside for them to experience wildlife in the places where they, the majority of the population, live and work.
The Urban Action group meets at least once a quarter to work on action plans priority habitats and species in urban and industrial areas. The group also provides an informal networking forum for the people and organisations who work on urban greenspace issues and biodiversity in the Tees Valley. The group has responsibility for the following action plans for species and habitats;
- Brownfield sites
- Cemeteries and churchyards
- Gardens and allotments
- Parks and amenity grassland
- School grounds
- Dingy skipper
- Grayling
- Water vole
