Rural Action Group
Although the Tees Valley has a high concentration of industrial and urbanised areas, these centres are surrounded by rural and agricultural land. Approximately 60% of the Tees Valley area is in agricultural land use. The Rural Action Group works on priority habitats and species associated with farmed and rural landscapes.
The Rural Action group meets at least once a quarter to work on action plans priority habitats and species in rural areas. The group also provides an informal networking forum for people and organisations working on countryside issues and biodiversity in the Tees Valley. The group has responsibility for the following action plans for species and habitats;
- Ancient and species rich hedgerows
- Cereal field margins and arable
- Heathland
- Semi-natural broadleaved woodland
- Unimproved grassland
- Barn owl
- Corn bunting
- Grey partridge
- Harvest mouse
