Maps
A summary of the geographical and ecological information on ponds in the Tees Valley is available with this interactive mapping system using GoogleTM maps.
Either use the search button to access for information across the Tees Valley Pondscape database or by selecting individual ponds will bring up information relating to that pond. This gives the pond unique reference number and grid reference and lists what type of data has been collected for each pond.
Data on protected species and landowner details have been removed from this data set.
To accompany this, a summary of the source of the data, how it was collected and the date of survey has been produced. This is part of the final Pondscape report and is available on CD with the data . Contact the Tees Valley Biodiversity Coordinator for details.
All ponds: All ponds mapped by the project.
Ponds created/restored by project: Ponds that have been created or restored in 2008-2011 by the project.
Ponds with priority pond status: Ponds that meet the national priority pond status in the national Pond habitat action plan (based on available survey information).
Ponds with PSYM surveys: PSYM surveys (Predictive System of Multimetrics) were carried out on 36 ponds. This methodology, developed by Pond Conservation ‘score’ the pond for quality based on a plant species and invertebrate family species list and environmental factors. Full information on PSYM methodology is available at www.pondconservation.org.uk/Data/surveymethods/psym.
Ponds with NPS surveys: Pond basic pond surveys, derived from the NPS methodology were conducted on 440 ponds. These surveys record a range of basic key information such as pond type and use, current management, location in the landscape, surrounding land use, public access and evidence of invasive plants. A diagram of the pond, with key features and vegetation stand forms and water inflows and outflows formed part of the survey.
All the species group searches: where information on these groups is available, either collected or collated by the project.
Ponds with records of toads: All ponds with common toads were recorded using data collected and collated by the project.
Ponds with BAP/locally important species present: These are ponds that have national BAP species recorded as well as freshwater invertebrates that have national and /or local importance
Ponds with correct landowner information: This indicates where the project has up to date (2011) information on the landowner of the pond. Due to data protection we cannot make this information publically available.
