RSPB
The RSPB’s Big Garden Bird Watch is the world’s biggest bird survey, thanks to its simplicity and the short time it takes to do. The survey is an annual event each January and gives a vital snapshot of the UK’s birds each winter. Use their interactive bird identifier to quickly and easily work out which bird you saw.
British Trust for Ornithology
The British Trust for Ornithology promotes bird conservation through volunteer-based surveys. There is a wealth of surveys for everyone from the beginner to the committed birder, as well as information on the current status and conservation challenges facing birds in the UK.
The BTO/CJ Garden BirdWatch is a year-round project that gathers important information on how different species of birds use gardens and how this use changes over time. Gardens are an important habitat for many wild birds, providing a useful refuge for those affected by changes in the management of our countryside. Find out more at
