Eco-Schools
Eco-Schools is a great programme that makes sustainable development a part of the life and ethos of your school. The programme promotes environmental awareness in a way that links to many formal curriculum subjects, as well as getting pupils involved in active citizenship, personal, social and health education (PSHE) and education for sustainable development.
The Eco-Schools programme is holistic. It works by involving the whole school (pupils, staff, non-teaching staff and governors) together with members of the local community (parents, local authority, local businesses) in working together to create a shared understanding of what it takes to run a school in a way that respects and enhances the environment.
In the Tees Valley there are a number of environmental organisations who are able to provide advice and support with the Eco-Schools and Sustainable Schools programmes.
